CHICAGO, Ill. — A late-night domestic incident on Chicago’s West Side left two people dead following a shooting inside a residence Monday night, police said.
Officers responded to reports of shots fired around 9:42 p.m. near Francisco and Washington in the city’s 12th District. Upon arrival, police discovered two victims suffering from gunshot wounds inside the home.
Preliminary information indicates that a 44-year-old man and a 31-year-old male offender were involved in a physical altercation inside the residence. During the confrontation, the victim reportedly produced a sharp object and attacked the suspect.
Police said the suspect then pulled out a firearm and fired multiple rounds.
The 44-year-old man sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
A 38-year-old woman, who authorities say attempted to intervene during the altercation, was shot in the head. She was also taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
The 31-year-old suspect remained at the scene and was taken into custody. Authorities confirmed he is a valid FOID cardholder, and a firearm was recovered at the location.
Charges are pending as Area Three Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
