A violent armed robbery in Chicago’s Belmont Cragin neighborhood has left a 28-year-old woman injured after she was shot on a sidewalk Monday night, according to police.
The incident occurred in the 5700 block of West Diversey Avenue just before 8 p.m., when an unknown suspect approached the woman while she was walking. Authorities say the offender produced a firearm and demanded her belongings.
During the encounter, the suspect struck the victim with the gun and fired multiple shots, hitting her in the buttocks and ankle before fleeing the scene with her property.
Emergency responders transported the victim to Loyola Hospital, where she was reported to be in fair condition.
Police have not yet released a description of the suspect, and no arrests have been made. Area detectives are actively investigating the incident as they work to identify and locate the individual responsible.
